OLYMPIANS TO PARTICIPANT IN BOYCE AWARDS BANQUET

Four-time USA Volleyball Olympians Lloy Ball and Danielle Scott-Arruda will take part in festivities surrounding the 64th Annual Dorothy C. Boyce Awards and Recognitions Banquet set for May 21 at the Hilton Minneapolis. The banquet recognizes achievements across the sport of volleyball and will use the theme "Beijing Glory" to celebrate accomplishments at the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The head coaches for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Teams - Hugh McCutcheon and "Jenny" Lang Ping - will also take part in the Boyce Moment highlighting Team USA accomplishments at the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. U.S. MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM UPDATE - April 30, 2009

Four Russian teams with U.S. players remain active in the Super League playoffs. Zenit Kazan, featuring U.S. setter Lloy Ball and opposite Clay Stanley, has opened up a 2-0 match lead over Iskra Odintsovo in the championship series. Visiting Zenit beat Iskra, 3-0 on April 27 and 3-2 on April 28. Stanley had 12 points on 10 kills, one block and one ace in the first match and nine points on seven kills and two blocks in the second. Ball had three points on three kills in the first match and no points in the second. MORE

WOMEN'S PAN AMERICAN CUP TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE

USA Volleyball and the Miami-Dade Sports Commission has established ticket prices for the Eighth Annual Women's Pan American Cup to be hosted in the city of Miami from June 26 to July 4. The nine-day Pan American Cup, which has three of the four 2008 Olympic Games semifinalists (Brazil, USA and Cuba), will be played on the campuses of the University of Miami and Florida International University. A total of 12 teams are scheduled to compete in the event. Pool play is scheduled for June 26-30, while classification rounds are set for July 2-4. MORE

KESSY, ROSS CLAIM SILVER MEDAL AT FIVB KIA OPEN IN BRAZIL

The U.S. women's beach volleyball team of Jen Kessy and April Ross fell to Brazil's Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca in the gold medal match at the KIA Open in Brasilia, Brazil, part of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour. It took fifth-ranked Juliana and Larissa 44 minutes to defeat top-seeded Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), 2-0 (21-18, 21-18). MORE

AVP CROCS TOUR MOVES TO SAN DIEGO MAY 1-3

HP GIRLS' YOUTH, WOMEN'S JUNIOR TRYOUT RESULTS

USA Volleyball High Performance Department is pleased to announce the release of its girls' tryout results for 2009. On April 29, the USA Volleyball High Performance Girls' Youth results will be posted followed by the Women's Junior tryout results on April 30 and Girls' Select tryout results on May 6. Confirmation deadline for all Youth programs is May 7, and named rosters will soon follow. MORE

JUNIATA WINS MOLTEN DIVISION III MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP

Top-seeded Juniata swept No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology to win the 2009 Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship on April 18 on the campus of Ramapo College. The Eagles have won a record six Molten Invitational championship titles. The Eagles won the title match with scores of 30-26, 30-25 and 30-19. In the consolation game, No. 3 UC Santa Cruz defeated No. 4 Ramapo 3-2 (30-27, 27-30, 30-26, 27-30, 15-13). MORE

The remaining schedule for the webinars are May 6-7, May 20-21, June 3-4, June 10-11, June 21 and June 28. Please note that times will be 6 p.m. Mountain Time (8 p.m. Eastern Time) for each course unless otherwise noted. If there is a large group that would like to setup a separate time then contact Andy.Pai@usav.org. Spring/Summer 2009 CAP Courses Open for Registration!
Courses and Clinics confirmed and OPEN FOR REGISTRATION NOW include:
  • CAP Modules at the St. Louis University Coaches Clinic on May 8-9
  • CAP Modules at the AVCA Spring Conference in Provo Utah on May 8-10
  • CAP I Hosted by Carolina Storm Volleyball Club, Concord, N.C., on May 9-10
  • CAP I & II Hosted by the Viper VBC in San Antonio, TX on May 30-31, plus a series of Kids Clinics featuring Head Clinician Ryan Millar from the USA Gold Medal Men's Team on Friday May 29th, and a Sitting Volleyball Clinic featuring John Kessel on Monday June 1.
  • CAP I Hosted by Winning Edge Volleyball Center in Dallas on June 6-7
  • CAP I & II and possibly VCAP at the GJOVC in Miami on June 24-27; All must attend the first evening on June 25 from 4-10 pm, followed by two days of morning and afternoon "WAVE" schedule of sessions. So if a coach is playing the a.m., then they can attend the p.m. sessions and vice versa.
  • CAP I at the BJOVC in Atlanta on June 30 to July 3; The boys schedule will follow the girls format mentioned above.
  • Other yet to be confirmed date/sites included on the CAP schedule page now: CAP at the Gulf Coast RVA, and the IREVA in summer or fall; CAP Modules at the High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale in July; Bayou Region CAP I in late July/early August; CAP I & II in the Keystone Region in late July/early August; CAP I & II in McLean, Va., in October, in Colorado Springs at the USOTC on Nov. 28-29, at the AVCA Convention in Tampa in December, and others later this year. USAV CAP is actively seeking new dates and sites to add to the schedule. If you or your organization is interested in hosting either a full CAP I or II course or a Modules Clinic, or licensing sessions from your own Coaches Clinic as CAP Modules, please contact Diana or Andy at cap@usav.org.

    USAV Education and Human Kinetics Book & DVD Release! The USAV Education Department and Human Kinetics Publishing have collaborated on a new book and DVD titled Volleyball Systems & Strategies, which was released at the end of March and is available for purchase now. USAV-CAP Cadre member Stu Sherman wrote and USAV Director of Education Diana Cole edited this new resource for coaches which will be also available soon on the USA Volleyball Web site.     The new USAV Coaching Education video channel is up & running on Dartfish.TV with five Coaching Performance Series video clip collections currently available for subscription. Each of the five featured skill collections includes video clips of high school and USA National Team players demonstrating skills from multiple angles, with embedded Key Position text, on-screen drawings & annotations.     The USA Volleyball Education Department is happy to announce a partnership with both the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) to create a new Internet-based on-demand coaching course - Fundamentals of Coaching Volleyball - for beginning coaches. The course is scheduled for a late summer/early fall release. Watch for more information to come!

    The NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship will be held May 7 and May 9, The title match will be broadcast live May 9 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN 360...A free youth volleyball clinic will be held at Smith Field on the campus of Brigham Young University on May 9 at noon. 2008 U.S. Olympic Team gold medalist Ryan Millar will be the lead clinician. After the clinic, BYU will host Fan Fest at 2 p.m. leading into the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship match at 5 p.m...Roland Stone, the former Commissioner of Ohio Valley and the old Region IV, passed away on April 26. "Stoney" was a long-time leader of USA Volleyball and laid the groundwork for his region that now has become our most populous region (in terms of USAV membership numbers) over the past several years. He was also a former member of the Ohio Valley Region Board of Directors...Former USA Volleyball Board of Director Sue Sinclair was awarded the George E.
