U.S. Sitting Teams Win Parapan Am Qualifiers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  – The U.S. Men’s and Women’s Sitting Teams both concluded the Parapan American Zonal Championships on Saturday at the McGill University Athletic Complex in Montreal with 4-0 records against the teams from Canada.

Both U.S. teams have qualified to compete at the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team opened play in the morning with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-12) victory over Canada.

Gold Medalists Upset at AVP’s Stop in Atlanta

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The beach volleyball team of John Hyden and Sean Scott upset 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers at the AVP Crocs Tour Atlanta Open on Sunday.

Hyden (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) and Scott (Redondo Beach, Calif.), seeded second, defeated top-ranked Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) , 2-1 (21-14, 18-21, 19-17) in one hour, 16 minutes in Sunday’s final.

On the women’s side, top-ranked 2008 Olympians Nicole Branagh (Orinda, Calif.) and Elaine Youngs (El Toro, Calif.) defeated the second-seeded team of Dianne DeNecochea (San Diego, Calif.) and Carrie Dodd (Hermosa Beach, Calif.), 2-1 (19-21, 21-19, 15-8) in one hour, 10 minutes.
