| Symantec de-duplication strategy targets data growth, virtual machines Symantec is expanding its de-duplication capabilities across several backup products slated to be released this year and in 2010. EMC fine tunes its management software portfolio EMC announces its Ionix IT management software suite that the vendor says will help customer more easily manage physical, virtual and cloud IT environments. IT security pros are wary of cloud services The adoption of cloud computing services is likely to follow the same path as virtualization and to mirror the same security concerns. Propack virtualizes for gains Global packaging company Essel Propack was struggling to communicate and collaborate across servers spread over 21 locations. In addition to mammoth costs, the servers were painfully slow. For a smart solution, they turned to virtualization. Vendor links firewalls to VMware hypervisor Altor Networks has rewritten its firewall for virtual machines so the software plugs directly into VMware hypervisors, boosting the performance of the firewall by a factor of 10, the company says. VMware offering 'safe passage' to Virtual Iron users VMware is trying to exploit uncertainty among customers of Virtual Iron, the virtualization vendor recently acquired by Oracle, with a new "safe passage" plan that offers Virtual Iron users steep discounts on certain VMware products if they switch. Wyse VDA set to help accelerate desktop virtualization adoption ESG recently surveyed 480 North American and Western European IT decision makers and found significant early use of and interest in VDI Technology. Vizioncore ships virtual backup and recovery tool The new version of Vizioncore's flagship backup package for virtual machines has exited its beta programme and is now available on general release. Veeam looks to combat virtual sprawl Virtualisation specialist, Veeam Software, has launched a new tool aimed at simplifying the management of virtual machines. Veeam president and CEO Ratmir Timashev said that the tool, Business View, would help combat the size of VM sprawl by linking every virtual machine to a business service.
