USA VOLLEYBALL TO HOST MEN'S WORLD QUALIFIER IN IRVINE

USA Volleyball has announced that it will host the 2010 Men's World Championship Qualification Tournament for NORCECA Pool F on Aug. 15-17 at the Bren Events Center on the campus of UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif. Men's volleyball teams from the United States, Panama, Guatemala and Dominican Republic will compete in the event. The 2010 World Championship will be held Sept. 24-Oct. 10, 2010, in Italy. MORE

AMERICAN BEACH TEAMS SWEEP GOLD MEDALS IN MARSEILLE

The USA Volleyball beach teams of Jen Kessy and April Ross and Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers swept the women's and men's gold medals on Sunday at the US$600,000 World Series 13 Grand Chelem, part of the SWATCH FIVB Grand Slam tournament in Marseille, France. Dalhausser and Kessy were named the tournament MVPs. MORE

NEW PLAYERS CENTER STAGE FOR FIVB WORLD GRAND PRIX

The U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team played two international tournaments on domestic soil (Pan American Cup at Miami and FIVB Women's World Championship Qualification Tournament at Orlando) in June and July with six Olympians playing key roles, but newcomers will take center stage during the upcoming FIVB World Grand Prix that begins on July 31. U.S. MEN'S JUNIOR TEAM BEATS BELARUS TO OPEN WORLDS

The U.S. Men's Junior National Team opened the FIVB World Championships on Friday with a 3-1 (32-30, 21-25, 25-18, 30-28) pool play victory over Belarus at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India. The seventh-ranked U.S. Men's Junior Team will play its next pool play match against Tunisia at 1:30 a.m. PT on Saturday. MORE

MANHATTAN BEACH HOSTS JUNIOR TOUR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Junior Beach volleyball teams from California and Arizona descended on Manhattan Beach, Calif. to take part in the USA Beach Junior Tour Open Championships on July 25. The tournament is part of the USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour, a series of beach volleyball events held around the country. Age divisions range from under-12 to under-20. MORE

U.S. WOMEN'S JUNIOR TEAM FINISHES 12TH AT WORLDS

The U.S. Women's Junior National Team ended the 2009 FIVB World Championships on a down note as it fell to Czech Republic, 0-3 (13-25 13-25 16-25) on Saturday in Tijuana, Mexico and finished the tournament in 12th place (2-6). MORE

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA NAMED OLYMPIC TRAINING SITE

The USOC announced the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla., as an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training site for volleyball, archery and Paralympic sports. The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) became an official Paralympic training site in 2005 and is currently home to the U.S. men's and women's sitting volleyball teams. MORE

NAMES AND NOTES

Oklahoma Region Commissioner Shawn McCarty was USA Volleyball's representative at the University of Central Oklahoma during meetings with officials from the U.S. Olympic Committee and UCO on July 27-28. Following the meetings, there was a press conference to announce that UCO was being named an Olympic and Paralympic Training Site by the U.S. Olympic Committee. To read the story, click here. A new State Games of America athlete record has already been set for volleyball with 218 teams already registered. The State Games of America will take place July 30-Aug. 2 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Read about it here. A U.S. men's volleyball team placed second to Israel at the 18th Maccabiah Games on July 13-23 in Israel. The U.S. women's volleyball team placed fourth and a men's beach volleyball team finished seventh. Go to the Maccabiah Games home page by clicking here.
