MATCH 38: Puerto Rico Victorious Over Host U.S.

MIAMI, Fla. (July 4, 2009) - Puerto Rico notched a 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 victory over United States in the bronze-medal match of the Eighth Women's Pan American Cup being played at the University of Miami's BankUnited Center.

Puerto Rico finished the tournament in third place, while USA settled for fourth place. Earlier in the tournament, the Americans defeated Puerto Rico in four sets on the final day of pool play to win Pool A with a 5-0 record.

Aurea Cruz led all scorers with 27 points for Puerto Rico, include 23 kills and four blocks. Sarai Alvarez added 20 points with 19 kills and an ace. Yarimar Rosa and Sheila Ocasio chipped in eight points in the victory.

Danielle Scott-Arruda led the U.S. with 14 points via 10 kills and four blocks. Nancy Metcalf contributed 13 points on 10 kills and three blocks. Kristin Richards added 11 points on 10 kills and one ace.

Puerto Rico outscored the U.S. 61-46 in kills to offset a 13-10 block disadvantage and 14 service errors.

"This victory represents a good finish to the tournament," an elated Puerto Rican Head Coach Carlos Cardona said in the post-match press conference. "We played with a lot confidence as it was hard to go through the U.S. defense."

"Congratulations to Puerto Rico as they certainly deserved to win the match," U.S. Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon said. "We came out flat and never got into any rhythm. Puerto Rico was able to return the big points when they needed them."

"Puerto Rico made the important plays at the right time," said Scott-Arruda, the U.S. captain. "We need to play more consistently throughout the match to improve."

McCutcheon was able to utilize a tournament roster dotted with youth as well as veterans. At the press conference, McCutcheon related one of the goals of the tournament was to involve the Olympians as a matter of familiarization with the staff before they get some deserved rest between the professional league seasons.

"For many of our Olympians, this was a chance for our coaching staff to see them and have them be a part of our system early in the process," McCutcheon said.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Volleyball beach team of Jen Kessy and April Ross are the new women’s world champions of beach volleyball after defeating Brazilians Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca in the final at the SWATCH FIVB World Championships in Stavanger, Norway.

Top –seeded Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) beat the third-ranked Brazilians 2-0 (30-28, 23-21) in a 58-minute gold-medal match with Ross ending the match with a masterful block. Ross was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

“Just to win that match at any time is so amazing, and we won it in the World Championship match,” Kessy said. “This was our goal from the beginning of the season was to win World Champs. We didn’t make to the Olympics last year by a slim margin and this was our goal this year.”

Kessy and Ross made it to the final by defeating fifth-ranked Shelda Bede and Ana Paula Connelly, 2-1 (28-26, 15-21, 15-9) in 73 minutes in Saturday’s semifinal.

MORE TO COME

your opinion + 20 minutes = $100

Dear Member:
Strickman Research, a marketing research firm, has contacted us for assistance in reaching out to you with this invitation to participate in a paid research study. If you qualify for the study, they would ask for no more than 20 minutes of your time and would pay you $100 US:

What are we researching?
We are looking for people who have left comments on various blogs and forums about operating system software they've used. We are looking for people who have previously "published" their suggestions online and expressed their wishes for certain features or functions they would like to see in future versions of various PC operating systems. Such comments can run the gamut from very technical to very broad, for instance comments like: "I wish it would boot faster." or "How can I share files between my home computers?" would suffice. The wishes and suggestions can be implied in a question where one is hoping to find a solution to a particular problem.

We are looking for comments published online between 1/2005 - 12/2008.
More recent assessments of newer operating systems, published in 2009, may also be pertinent. We are looking for participants age 19 and older in, or very near the following regions: UK, France, Germany, Australia, USA, and Canada.

How do I participate?
If you left a written comment on a blog, forum or informational website which was, broadly speaking, a suggestion or wish for a certain feature or function you would like to see improved in your computer's operating system, please find your specific comment or comments online and paste the link/s in an email to us at us@strickman-ripps.com.
Please include:
1. The link to your comment/s including the date when it/they was/were posted
2. Your username on that/those site/s
3. Full name
4. Email address
5. Phone number
6. Location (City/State/Country)
7. Best time to be reached

What should I expect?
Once we have received your email, and reviewed your comment/s, a representative from Strickman Research will contact you by phone to ask you a few qualifying questions. This call will take no more than 10 minutes of your time. If you qualify (95% of applicants should qualify) we will schedule you for a recorded internet video chat at your convenience that would take no more than 20 minutes of your time and for which you would be paid $100 US in the form of a VISA cash card.

What if I don't qualify?
If you do not meet the criteria for our research study, we will most likely let you know in the first few minutes of our phone call. We will not trouble you any further and we will not store or share you contact information.

What if I have other questions?
Please email us. We look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks for your consideration,

Izabela Pascal
