Indochine Discovery Tours

Dear Valued Partner,

INDOCHINE DISCOVERY TOURS

South East Asia Travel Experts

We are experts in organised tours around South-East Asia. We offer journeys through the real Indochina, back to the ancient and colonial past of this region. We leave the beaten path and take travellers into a breathtaking world full of magic. We show the cultural and ethnical diversity, the natural wonders and lifestyle of Indochina.

We aim our tours at two distinct groups of travellers, standard and lifestyle (jet set). Standard travellers are looking for affordable and reasonable organized tours with adventure. Lifestyle (or jet set) travellers, on the other hand, seek the pleasures of a luxurious hotel and exclusive activities such as helicopter trips and golf.

Travellers can customise their journeys together with one of our experts into tailor-made travel plans. They can choose from a variety of places. These wishes we then turn into organised tours. Depending on preferences, travellers can choose between more active or more laissez-faire tours with plenty of free-time.

Travellers can also decide for a set journey pre-selected by us on the basis of our travel experience. We offer three types of set tours: multi-country tours, single-country tours, and city breaks to selected destinations.

Our Indochina Tour and a Mekong Tour are multi-country tours. Both tours are adventurous journeys around Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to places of breath-taking scenery, the ancient and colonial past, and sites of cultural and ethnical diversity. For our Indochina Tours travellers can choose between three options. They can start either in Hanoi, Saigon or Phnom Penh. All these options have a different emphasis, depending on the travellers' preferences. Here is a brief itinerary of Option One:

Option One (start in Hanoi, 19 days/18 nights)

Day 1              Hanoi

Day 2              Hanoi – Ha Long Bay

Day 3              Ha Long Bay – Hue

Day 4              Hue

Day 5              China Beach – Hoi An

Day 6              Hoi An

Day 7              Saigon

Day 8              Phu Quoc Island

Day 9              Phu Quoc Island

Day 10            Chau Doc – Phnom Penh

Day 11            Phnom Penh

Day 12            Siem Reap

Day 13            Siem Reap

Day 14            Vientiane

Day 15            Vientiane

Day 16            Luang Prabang

Day 17            Luang Prabang

Day 18            Hanoi

On our Mekong Tour we step back into time by taking a slow boat down the Mekong. We set out in the northern city of Luang Prabang in Laos and follow this great river as it meanders to southern Laos, into Cambodia and finally meets the South China Sea in the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam. This two-week tour offers a different view of these countries, away from the bustle of cities and crowded beaches through an older Indochina.

On our single-country tours, travellers encounter the landmarks and experience the character of a country of their choice. They can choose between Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam. These tours last from one to two weeks. On our Cambodia Tour, for example, we visit Phnom Penh, Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville, and Siem Reap.

Our city breaks are short trips to selected destinations. These tours tend to last between three to six days. Given the short nature of these journeys they are more suitable for those already staying in Asia. Popular destinations for city breaks are Phu Quoc Island (Vietnam), Dalat/Nha Trang (Vietnam), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Sihanoukville (Cambodia), and Luang Prabang (Laos). In addition, we offer Christmas Tours and Lunar New Year Tours to places of interest in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Tours around Myanmar and Thailand are coming soon.

Please contact me if you need any further informations.

Yours truly,

Tales of a Link Pr0stitute: No Cash in Vegas Calls for Desperate Measures

It's a widely known fact that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Not quite as widely known, but still a fact is this: if you have no cash in Vegas, you stay in Vegas.

This is the position I found myself in when I attended PubCon, a conference for online marketers. I could only take out $80 a day in cash due to a mix up at the bank. Also, another mix up had depleted all of my credit without me knowing.

What was a girl to do?

"You could become a link pr0stitute," one search engine marketer volunteered at the bar. "Sell links from your website to make mad dollars."

Some online marketers buy links to their website to help them rank higher on search engines—but none will admit to doing it. It's a bad idea.

But desperate times call for desperate measures.

I take you through the steps of degenerating into a link prostitute while living it up in two luxury hotels in Vegas.

Please read the rest of the story here.

Google plans UI changes for 2010

While Google has been criticized recently for being slow to update their UI, Search Engine Land reports that there are some changes planned for 2010. Google vice president of search product and user experience Marissa Mayer outlined several changes that are being planned to the UI, including adding a permanent left-hand column for search options, allowing the user to switch between All Results, Images, News and more.

Mayer said the changes are being instituted to bring more consistency to how and where search results appear. She compared the current way they are presented to free-form jazz music.

"I don't like jazz, because you never know what's going to happen next," Mayer said, continuing on to apply the musical style to Google's search results. "I've been calling this problem 'user interface jazz.' This result looks this way, and that result looks that way [something much different], and it really does slow you down."

Google is also moving to a three-pane design similar to the one pioneered by Ask.com. This would include leaving the search options window open permanently, with the results in the middle and ads on the right.

Mayer said that from one to three percent of Google users will see the changes soon as part of a six-week series of tests, with a full site rollout pending the feedback of the selected focus group.

LinkedIn and Twitter join forces

LinkedIn has announced a new partnership with Twitter that allows users of both social networking services to interchangeably update their statuses from either service.

"The idea is simple," said Co-Founder of LinkedIn Allen Blue. "When you set your status on LinkedIn you can now tweet it as well, amplifying it to your followers and real-time search services like Twitter Search and Bing. And when you tweet, you can send that message to your LinkedIn connections as well, from any Twitter service or tool."

While LinkedIn is designed to help users build their professional identity on the Web, updating a status has also proved valuable to users. According to Blue, status has helped LinkedIn users find new assignments and jobs as well as launch companies. Integrating its services with Twitter allows LinkedIn to broaden its audience and in turn provide a better service to its users.

However, as Ian Paul of PC World points out, don't forget that these two services are very different from each other. In a recent article titled Do's and Don'ts for users, Paul writes, "If you integrate your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts, be prepared to make smart choices about what you share across these services, because what's perfectly acceptable on one network, may not work on the other."

LinkedIn users who still wish to join accounts with Twitter can check the Twitter box under their Network Updates box on the homepage and follow a few simple steps. Twitter users can choose to either send all tweets or select tweets from Twitter back to LinkedIn as a status update.

The new features are scheduled to roll out gradually over the next couple of days.

New search engine Factery Labs takes a "just the facts" approach to content

A new search engine has emerged as a challenger to Google's throne, but this one is taking a radically different approach to Internet searches. ReadWriteWeb reports that a new API service called Factery Labs is launching today, and as its name indicates, what it cares most about is "just the facts."

Factery Labs uses advanced technology to create reading summaries of new stories instead of merely delivering lists of links to stories involving selected keywords. The goal is to avoid duplication and cut out all of the unnecessary bits in order to give readers one place to go to get all of the relevant information they need on a newsmaker or current story.

Factery Labs was co-founded by Paul Pederson, who has an extensive background in search engines through stints at Inktomi, Google, and Powerset. Pederson says that even though its mobile applications are not ready to be launched, the company sees major growth potential in the mobile search market.

"Our analysis shows that mobile devices are a prime target for this technology because the latency produces a lot of resistance in the browse experience," said Pedersen.

Editor's Pick: Shoppers Mean Business on Cyber Monday

Shoppers Mean Business on Cyber Monday

Richard Adhikari
12/01/09 11:36 AM PT
Online shoppers spent more money on Cyber Monday than they did last year, according to research firm Coremetrics. However, they spent less time wandering the virtual isles. Multi-page and browsing session times both fell by a few percentage points, and bounce rates, which show how quickly visitors leave a page, shot up by almost 18 percent year over year.
