Anonymous and PayPal:The Grudge That Keeps On Grudging (15:08 minutes)
In this episode: Anonymous calls for a PayPal boycott as the Internet
payment provider continues to blockade WikiLeaks donations; Mozilla
makes plans to use Android as the basis of a new, Web-centric mobile
operating system; certain iOS apps get a little trickier to use as Apple
begins enforcing its rules concerning in-app purchases; rumors that
Apple may want to buy Hulu make the rounds, though skeptics have their
doubts; Google gets into a tangle with certain users over what names are
and are not acceptable to use in its new Google+ social network.

Today's Story Highlights
AT&T to Put Top Wireless Hogs on a Data Diet
AT&T will begin limiting data speeds for the top 5 percent of wireless
data users who currently have unlimited data plans, the company
announced Friday. Many AT&T customers currently operate under a tiered
data plan, but customers who had unlimited usage before the tiered plans
were initiated about a year ago were able to continue downloading and
uploading an unlimited amount of data.
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/72986.html
Integration, Rethought
Major trends around cloud, mobile and Software as a Service are
dramatically changing the requirements and benefits of application
integration. In many respects, the emphasis now on building hybrid
business processes from a variety of far-flung sources forces a
rethinking of integration and middleware.
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/72980.html
CMOs, Analytics and the Great Revenue Chase
As companies head out into the brave new post-recession world, the top
two goals for marketers are organic revenue growth and margin growth. To
help achieve these objectives, marketing budgets grew by an average of 4
percent for 2011. The crucial question, then, is this: How do CMOs
invest that marketing budget wisely to maximize gains?
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/72964.html
Meeting the Great Expectations of a New Breed of Shopper
As recently as just a few years ago, consumers had a limited set of
research options when they were looking to make an informed product
purchase. They may have done a Google search to learn where to buy the
product or noticed an advertisement and visited a store to speak with a
sales rep about it. For larger purchases, they might have picked up a
copy of Consumer Reports or asked friends for advice.
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/72977.html
Nintendo Bails Furiously but the Worst May Be Yet to Come
Can things get any worse for Nintendo? Its first-quarter earnings were a
major disappointment, with net sales down 50.2 percent and gross profit
down 84.3 percent, compared with the same period the previous fiscal
year. Sales of its five-month old 3DS game console were absolutely
dismal, prompting the game manufacturer to shore up the product line by
cutting the price to a loss-leading $170 per unit.

Adobe's Edge Lets Devs Wedge a Foot in HTML5 Door
Adobe on Monday announced the first public preview release of its Edge
HTML 5 Web motion and interaction design tool. This lets Web designers
add animation to websites using standards such as HTML, JavaScript and
CSS in much the same way they do with Flash Professional, Adobe said.
It's adopting an open development methodology for Edge because of rapid
changes around HTML 5.

Motorola Photon: Many Glowing Reviews, a Few Dark Glares
Motorola's latest high-end Android smartphone, the Photon, has hit the
shelves at Sprint stores for $200 and a two-year contract. Online
customers had a head start -- the Photon was available at Sprint's
website days ahead of its brick-and-mortar arrival. The Photon runs on
Android 2.3 -- Gingerbread -- and works on both 3G and 4G networks.

Dilbert Gets Windows Phone 7, the US Gets the Three Stooges
The two things I found particularly interesting last week were the
continued focus on the U.S. government's inability to live within its
means and Scott Adams, the father of Dilbert, accepting the Windows
Phone 7 challenge. The first continues to piss me off because both sides
seem to be unable to grasp the need to actually live within a budget,
and the second provides a much-needed chuckle.

Mozilla's Boot 2 Gecko: Who Wants Another Web-Based OS?
Well it's been another scorching week here in the Linux blogosphere,
where all the vegetation has been baked to oblivion and all the tempers
are running hot. There's nary a drop of water to be found around here
anymore -- all the wildlife have packed up and set off in search of more
hospitable ground -- but at least there's still the Punchy Penguin
blogobar, where the shades remain drawn and the air conditioning stays
on High.

HowStuffWorks: A Wild and Wonderful Cornucopia of Explanations
There is a HowStuffWorks app for iPhone, but I went for the iPad version
-- bigger, better, easier to navigate and consume, especially when I
want to kick back and learn about how things work. I was expecting a
nitty-gritty experience of things like how combustion engines work, or
how a potato-launching spud gun manages to blast a tuber 100 yards.
Well, I got what I was expecting, but so much more.
